How To Navigate SXSW’s Music Scene, Even If You Can’t Make It

WORDS BY: ARIELA KOZIN

It’s that time of year again. Thousands of music lovers are getting ready to descend upon the Austin streets for SXSW. If you’ve ever attended the week-long music fest, then you’re well aware of the stampede of people in every direction at all times. It’s hard to maneuver around the crowds in an efficient way, but it’s even harder to get into shows to see up-and-comers and superstars alike—meaning it’s necessary to plan ahead. There are so many performers, that’s it’s difficult to even decide who you’d like to see during the event—but alas, SXSW’s Music Blogger’s Guide to SXSW 2017 is back and better than ever. In hopes of the making it all easier to navigate, the people behind the festival worked overtime to create The Music Blogger’s Guide to SXSW 2017.

The guide is interactive this year and the execution is pretty much a digital age dream come true. This year, the SXSW music’s leader James Minor teamed up with the digital studio Foxtrot and an elite squad of music bloggers to highlight more than 100 of their favorite rookies set to perform. Once you open up the digi-pamphlet, you can listen to the given musician’s jams while simultaneously reading up on why you’ll love their performance.”Our connection to music is personal, albeit in varying degrees from person to person—we can’t always relate to each other, but we can all relate to a good song,” James wisely muses.

The most beautiful part about this guide? Even if you can’t attend SXSW, it still gives us the chance to have that sweet, euphoric feeling you get when we hunt down a fresh EP to play on repeat.

Click here to discover your new favorite sounds now, but be forewarned—the endless music goodness has the power to hypnotize you for hours.
