Into the depths of Nostalgia for Sandy Liang’s Vans Collaboration

Sandy Liang’s clothes permeate youthful tendencies and nostalgia. Born and raised in New York, the 28-year-old designer produces items that are both comforting and alluring, her teddy bear-like fleeces and whispering laced dresses have become a staple for pop-stars and celebrities to skaters that role through the Lower East Side. Debuting her inaugural collection 2014, Liang has established a prominent reputation for herself, notably for her light-heartedness and spirited garments.

Liang plays off of her ethos on how she holds onto her childhood and doesn’t think it’s necessary to dress like an adult. Just take a look at her Polly Pocket inspired jewelry line she released last Fall. If that isn’t enough to channel your teenage self, her Fall/Winter 2020 runway show was hosted at Stuyvesant High School, her alma mater.

With her first collection with Vans that have been taking over the internet this past week, the collection comes full circle with the ’90s – pink velvet sneakers pierced with beads and crystals, slip-ons covered in a Camron-Esque pink fur adorning the fur coats in her collection, and detailed laces with 10002 printed along them, as a nod to Chinatown New York, her creative hub.

The collaboration includes 13 ready-to-wear pieces, from tie-dye bucket hats, biker shorts, fanny packs, hoodies, track pants, and of course 4 different models of the famed sneakers.
