Pleasure Over Matter

NYC-based artist Julio Felix curated a private art exhibition in celebration of the launch of The Space Program, a new San Francisco-based artist residency. Brothers Jacob and Isaac Pritzker and Jud Bergeron founded the not-yet-opened space in order to combat the problem of overcrowding the city so famously faces. The exhibition, which opened on August 17 and closed on August 31 (sorry if you missed it!), featured a bunch of other New York-based artists. The featured artists included, Jisho Roche Adachi, James English-Leary, Kentaro Ikegami, Jamian Juliano-Villani, Kyrre Mogster, Adehla Lee, Eamon Monaghan, Keegan Monaghan, Fin Simonetti, Darryl Westly, Austin Lee, and more.

The shuttered exhibit was called “Pleasure Over Matter,” because, as Felix says in the show’s press release, “This group of works deals with the age of digital reproduction by providing a new delivery for pleasure without regards for the material it was made of.” He continued,“The goal of this exhibition is to show the versatility of contemporary painting, to reconsider trivializing the purpose of materials, and to provide visual pleasure to parties interested in thinking visually with the artists.” Unfortunately, as mentioned, the show is no longer open, but the founders of the space explain that their “goal is to nurture and revitalize the vibrant artistic culture that has long defined San Francisco.” We can’t wait to see (and write about!) whatever else The Space Program comes up with next.
